Calling all bacon lovers! Unless you are a vegetarian or vegan, you probably love bacon. I haven’t met a meat-eating person who doesn’t. Unfortunately, bacon is one of those high-fat foods that bothers a lot of acid reflux sufferers. Well, here’s the good news: there are certain types of bacon and ways to prepare it that may enable you to have it again.
A couple of people who took my Healing Acid Reflux online program LOVE bacon. They tested swapping regular bacon with uncured bacon. Regular bacon uses commercial salt and sodium nitrates, where uncured bacon uses a source of natural nitrates and sea salt. They said it made a difference in how they felt.
Cooking Tip: so the bacon doesn’t cook flooded in its own fat, try broiling it instead, so the fat drips into the pan below. Spray the broiler pan with an oil spray (I suggest coconut oil spray), so the raw bacon doesn’t stick. The longer you cook the bacon, the crispier it gets, and more of the fat will be cooked off. So make it crispy! Take the bacon off the broiler pan and place it onto a plate with a paper towel and dab the bacon with the paper towel to soak up the extra oil.
These tips will release as much of the bacon’s fat as possible, while still retaining flavor. The other benefit of cooking the bacon this way is it lowers the calories and helps with weight loss.
Also, try eating bacon for breakfast or lunch instead of for dinner, so you aren’t lying down shortly after eating it.
