Wow! It is so important for us to do research for ourselves. Taking charge of your health (coming soon) For quite a while I have thought that nightshades – white potatoes, peppers, paprika, tomatoes, eggplant, tobacco and tomatillos (there are more) cause inflammation for everyone. That isn’t the case at all!
Turns out that some of us are sensitive to some of the chemicals within nightshades, specifically alkaloids and lectins.
People with auto-immune problems are even more susceptible.
Without going into too much of the chemistry, some lectins bind with sugar and protein molecules to increase the permeability of the intestines. Which is why it can affect people with IBS. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
Some of the alkaloids within nightshades aggravate the immune response (histamine), which is where my struggle lies, and they also contribute to the permeability of the intestines.
One of the questions that I have with sensitivity to nightshades is the Why? I feel that part of the answer is that years of chronic stress and the development of an ulcer has weakened my digestive system. And even though I have been through some major healing, there is still more to be done. Of course, I will be doing more research and already plan on an article on the effects of stress on the body, mind and spirit.
Another question or observation is that there must be a correlation between the gut issues and a Vitamin/mineral deficiency (coming soon). Hmmmmm, the next article almost writes itself!
So, my questions for you are – do your armpits smell awful like never before? Do you eat and immediately have food baby? Do certain foods send you running for the bathroom? (like Haagen-Daz does for me) Do you ever just not feel right in your own body?! Please do some research, ask some questions! And if you ever think of a question that you want me to write about, please let me know!
