But the refrigerator keeps calling you.  You just can’t stay away – and you don’t know why.

1. Your Body is Craving Nutrients It’s Not Getting From Your Diet

Your body is very efficient at extracting the nutrients it needs and letting you know when it needs more.  The challenge comes when you are eating a diet high in processed foods (foods your body doesn’t even know are foods), high in processed carbohydrates and refined sugars.  Your body will continue to ask for more (crave more) of the same because it doesn’t know any better.  The more sugar you eat, the more you will crave sugar. The more broccoli you eat, the more you will crave broccoli.  It’s true.

Craving high carbohydrate foods like pasta, bread, chips (my weakness), or cookies is very common. These cravings can be reduced by adding more nutrient-dense foods (like vegetables, organic/grass-fed proteins, eggs, nuts) to your diet, especially at the beginning of the day.  The more nutrition your body receives, the less it will have to ask for more. Put the focus on what your body really wants for your mental health as well as physical health.

The added benefit of eating more nutrient-dense foods, and fewer processed foods, is that your gut and your brain can now talk to each other much more efficiently. The line of communication (the vagus nerve) is much clearer.  When your tummy is happy, your brain is happy.

I have seen dramatic changes in my clients’ cravings and tastes by changing their eating habits in as little as 21 days.  Their mental clarity goes up, as well. Yes, it can be done!
