Bone broth is a miraculous (and time-consuming) concoction that not only adds depth and deliciousness to everyday cooking, it is a time-tested therapeutic elixir for the whole body.
Bone broth helps heal and seal your gut, and promotes healthy digestion-acting as a great antidote to the SAD diet (Standard American Diet). It also contains micronutrients like glycine and arginine that fight inflammation, calcium and magnesium that promote strong healthy bones, and compounds like chondroitin and glucosamine that can reduce joint pain.
With a few hours of work (or maybe a little more…), you can brew up your own bone broth. Drink a cup each morning as a tonic or use it to add flavor to rice or veggies. You can even freeze your brew in an ice cube tray so you always have it on hand.

DIY Detox Bone Broth
What you’ll need:
- 8-10 cups of water
- Bones from poultry or fish (remove the meat from the bone once tender enough ~1 hour)
- 1 lemon, squeezed
- 1 white onion, chopped
- 4 stalks celery, chopped
- 4 whole carrots, chopped
- 1-2 leeks, chopped
- 2 tsp. rosemary
- 2 tsp. sage
- 2 tsp. thyme
- 3 bay leaves
- Add salt, pepper and parsley to taste
Put all of the ingredients into one pot or slow cooker. Bring to a boil. Allow to simmer for 3-24 hours. Remove the bones and fat. Enjoy!
