Spring Clean your Life – Bodies and Minds
This week we will talk about Spring Cleaning our bodies and minds on the inside. Most of us have regular routines to shower and clean our skin and hair, brush our teeth, etc, but do you ever think of cleansing your insides? It’s Kind of like an oil change for your body.
You may think why do we need to do that? Our bodies are self-cleaning. Yes, that is true that our bodies and minds have natural processes to detox and remove toxins and process what the day has done to us. If you aren’t eating perfect organic food and drink, always thinking positively, forgiving everyone, and living in a bubble, you are getting toxins into your body and causing it stress that is most likely overwhelming the cleansing systems. That doesn’t even take into account if your body can actually digest and absorb what you are eating and all body systems are working properly.
What do we do? One thing you can do is a full body cleanse and then touch up work periodically. Some people have so much built up that they might want to do one every year for a while. I lead cleanse programs locally in Madison in spring and fall. We have workbooks available for purchase if you can't make it to town. It’s a 10-day digestive system cleanse in the spring and a full body tuneup in the fall lasting 6 weeks. This is a great first step. You will have more energy, re-boot your system and start to address underlying health conditions.
Does that sound like too much right now? Ok, try doing a lesser version to work your way up to a full cleanse. Here are a few ideas to try out. Try one or all of them for 7 - 14 days and see how you feel.
· Cut out sugar and/or alcohol
· Add an extra serving of vegetables a day (not corn or potatoes)
· Drink half your body weight in ounces of water per day
· Remove wheat from your diet
Now what about our minds and our mental health? Your mind needs to process all your thoughts from the day – emotions, worries, regrets, etc. Dr Mercola found that, recent research shows that your brain has a unique waste management system, similar to the lymphatic system in your body. This system, the glymphatic system, is activated during sleep. It flushes the waste from your brain back into your body’s circulatory system and into your liver, where it’s ultimately eliminated. This is one of the reasons we need to get quality sleep. Here are some ways to get better sleep:
· Remove electronics for a day or at least 2 hrs before bed
· Journaling upon waking or gratitude list at night
· Meditation & Deep Breathing
Hopefully you are able to try some of these techniques and start to feel better and have more energy. If you want to join me for my cleanse workshop this month, here are the details:
