Human Trafficking & Healthcare

With the rampant growth of sex trafficking in the U.S. and across the world, Healthcare Providers are becoming better equipped with vital information to look and listen for, pivotal questions to ask, and, now, a unified diagnostic medical code to help identify and provide assistance to victims of sex-trafficking.

As a Holistic ER Nurse, I have met and spoken to many individuals and knew 'something was not adding up' with their presenting symptoms and circumstances.

"According to a 2014 survey of about 100 survivors of sex trafficking, 88 percent said that while they were being trafficked, they had contact with a health care provider, typically someone in an emergency department."

Healthcare facilities in the past have been, often are, and should continue to be places of safety and healing from society's hurts.
