Glyphosate and Gut Health

Our gut is being called our 'second brain'. What!? The thing I have a love/hate relationship with is my second brain? When I heard that I was both scared and interested. Especially when I was taught that the human body is made of about 38 trillion bacterial cells and 30 trillion human cells. So that means we are more bacteria then human! Crazy. A community of microorganisms living in a particular area of your body is called a microbiome. The microbiome of the gut is responsible for 80% of our immune response. Most nutrient absorption and cleansing takes place in a healthy microbiome. This means everything from energy to weight management to digestion to mental clarity can be traced to the health of your microbiome.
Now that we know how important gut health is to our overall health, what is destroying it? Experts are pointing to GMOs, especially a toxic herbicide glyphosate. GMOs are in 75% of our food!! They are nearly impossible to avoid

Breakfast cereal
Chips
Ice cream
Bread
Conventional fruits & vegetables

Glyphosate can't be washed off or baked out of the foods. This chemical kills organisms that are not GMOs, including your healthy gut bacteria. The World Health Organization and National Academy of Sciences have identified glyphosate residue as a "probable carcinogen in humans." July 2017, the State of California declared that glyphosate "causes cancer and birth defects," adding it to the Proposition 65 list.
