I lived in Alabama for the first 18 years of this lifetime, then Tennessee from my college years until recently, when I moved to Mississippi to be available to my first grandchild. The road I've traveled personally has always included two lanes of spirituality and psychology. It's been a lifelong study in how to help myself and others overcome unnecessary suffering.
I've undertaken contemplative study and practice in secular, Christian, and Buddhist settings, culminating in my Ordination as a Dharmacharya of the Embracing Simplicity Contemplative Order founded by Venerable Pannavati. Meanw...
What inspired me to become a wellness professional?
I encountered some severe suffering early in life and yet had a sense that it didn't have to be that way. I was also a bookish child and by the 4th grade was reading "This Stranger My Son," a memoir from the mom of a young man dealing with schizophrenia.
The person I am now has inherited a mind/heart-stream that has long been devoted to uprooting the causes of unnecessary suffering, for myself and others. People engaged in that work, whether clients, colleagues or teachers, are my favorite people to spend time with for inspiration and learning.
How my clients describe their first visit?
I don't know what they say to their friends, but I often hear things like, "Well, now I'm excited. This is the most hopeful I've felt in a long time!"
What I say to someone who has never tried brainspotting?
When expertly guided by an attuned facilitator, brainspotting is highly-targeted form of mind/body practice that helps people meet their creative, relational and everyday goals. You are accidentally doing brainspotting all the time, actually, as your system is constantly trying to process material that has gotten stuck.
